Caregiving - Transition - Are You a Caregiver? |
| |
Judy Duran, 66, doesn't really think of herself as a "caregiver," even though the responsibility for two ladies in their 90s--her mother and mother-in-law--falls squarely on her head. "I've never thought about having a choice of doing it or not," says the retired remedial reading teacher. "My husband says it's payback time. They took care of us when we were little and we take care of them when they're old." She arranges their medications, cooks their meals, helps them bathe, changes their beds, washes their hair, trims their toenails, walks with them outside, and drives them to the doctor's office. Judy says that becoming a caregiver seemed like a natural extension of her family responsibility.
