Just check out how she looked at the Video Music Awards. She came on stage as the final presenter wearing the same outfit she wore in her 80s video of IfI Could Turn Back Time. She presented the award for Video of the Year to, naturally, Lady Gaga who asked Cher to hold her purse, which was made of meat. (Was she was commenting on Chers appearance? Just asking.} Now in one way it is a miracle of modern science that 64-year-old Cher could still stuff herself into an outfit she wore more than twenty years before. But one also thinks, Cher, move on, get a life and stop scaring the children.

This fall Dame Helen is starring in a film version of Shakespeares The Tempest in which she plays the traditionally-male lead part of Prospero, who is renamed Prospera for the movie. The movie is directed by Julie Taymor, the director who created the much acclaimed stage version of The Lion King. Dame Helen is also starring in a James Bond -like thriller called R.E.D., which means Retired Extremely Dangerous with Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. Although she was once known as much for taking off her clothes as for her acting ability, in her 60s Helen Mirren has had the greatest success of her career acting her age. Maybe thats a lot better, for actresses and for all of us, than trying to hold back time.
