Spring Adds New Colors into Fashion

The weather may be freezing and windy now, but the gentle warmth of spring is right over the horizon.

Clothing store managers are already thinking about spring fashions. Sweaters and coats are going on sale to make room for the vibrant styles of spring. People will be pleased to see the bright colors, flowing and light materials that herald warmer weather.

Tammy Kennedy, owner of Midnight Blue, a women's clothing store on St. Simons Island, is making way for the trends about to hit the shelves.

Spring is time to wear the right bright colors.

"Yellow is definitely the color," Kennedy said.

We aren't talking about dull, mustard yellow, but bright, vibrant, in-your-face yellow. Every color under the rainbow is taking on a more neon appearance. Purple is another great color to bring in spring, and you can find it on almost every shelf.

It's not just about one color, either. Tie-dye has made its way back into the fashion world, but it isn't the 1960s hippie look. It's more modern and chic to blend with other designs.

"It's revamped and very retro," said Kennedy.

Dresses always come back, but with a new look.

One thing Kennedy noticed in the fashion world is that long dresses are still "in." They are colorful, flowing, chic and comfortable. The patterns are creative, with polka dots, hearts and flowers.

Other dresses include buttoned-down shirt dresses. You can't help but notice that the bottom of a shirt dress resembles a man's shirttail. These flattering clothing look great with leggings or jeans. It seems like women's fashion is dipping into men's. Jeans are always fashionable, but this year they look more like your boyfriend's jeans. Of course that's the whole point -- a feminine pair of jeans that look like your significant other's. If you cringe at the thought of wearing your boyfriend's jeans, don't fret. Skinny jeans are still on the shelves, along with the favorite boot cut and straight leg. Accessories are taking on a whole new shine. Enamel is big, said Kennedy, pointing to an enamel red rose pendant hanging from a gold chain. Long chains are beautiful, but many necklaces are rising up. Gold and silver chokers with dangling pendants look great with the colorful dresses of yellow and purple. Cuff bracelets are another good find for spring. Look for ones with intricate designs and shiny rhinestones.
