With Arrival of Summer Comes a Fun Selection of Shorts

Designers went to great lengths when it came to shorts for summer 2009. "Summertime is about showing off your great legs, and what better way to do that than shorts?" said Brenda Thomas, buyer for Nouveau, a Wichita, Kansas, boutique.

"When the weather gets warm, pants give way to shorts, and it's a good summer for shorts," she said.

What makes this season's crop of shorts good?

Versatility, for one. Shorts come in so many different lengths, there's bound to be something for everyone.

At the Boutique at Johnston's Clothiers, Veronica Johnston says many customers are favoring walking shorts.

"It's the length that is great as a city short or for going more casual," she said.

You can also find shorts in all types of fabrics and styles. Some are dressed up and worn with jackets for a suit look or made of fabrics such as linen and silk blends.

"This season's shorts are based on fashion," Thomas said. "These are the kind of shorts you can wear for an evening out, at a patio party or out with friends."

As the weather heats up, show a little leg or a lot. Wear your favorite shorts with everything from a summer blazer to a T-shirt to a tailored sleeveless blouse. Add your favorite sandals or flats, and you're ready, short and sweet.
