Fall Layers

    5
  • You Layered Fall brings many things. Pumpkins, roaring fires, hot teas and our personal favorite, new clothes! No more is the time for loose sundresses and cotton pants. Yes, they were easy, but now its fall! And fall is so much fun for fashion.

This year, its all about the layers.

You: But I dont look good in layers. They make me look bigger.

Us: Read on. When theres a style, theres a way.

You: Surely, Ill get too hot with layers of clothes on.

Us: Read on. Theres a, dare we say, cool solution for that.

  • Cinch It

Really, its just a balancing act. Pair a wide belt over your shirt and cardigan or whatever youve chosen to layer. It tightens your waist and gives the look a sweet, feminine touch. Michelle Obama knows how to make this work.

Were jonesing for this belt from Banana Republic.

  • Mix It Up

And by that we mean, dont wear all loose-fitting or bulky things. Thats a sure-fire way to make you look squat. Pair a wide skirt or wide-leg pants with a more form-fitting top. And if you opt for tighter pants, reach for a flowy, looser top.

This basic long-sleeved crew neck from Target is a perfect staple to your layering wardrobe. Just dont pair it with anything too tight on the bottom!

  • Add Some Height

When in doubt, reach for the heels. There really isnt a better way to make yourself appear leaner than strapping on a pair of killer heels. Height makes you look longer; longer makes you look slimmer. Also, nothing says fashion plus function like a pair of small-heeled knee-high boots.

We dare this dark brown pair from Aldo to try not making it into our fall/winter wardrobe.

  • Lighten Up

To avoid feeling like youre having a hot flash, even when you are not, keep the layers lightweight. Dont add a sweater and a cardigan and wool pants. Choose breathable fabrics. Think cotton, think lightweight cardigans.

This one from Gap comes in a multitude of colors and surely wont ever go out of style.
