Ten Rallying Points for Boomer Mothers
1.
Be a fit mom. Not just once or on the weekend, but each day of your future. Movement and survival are intimately linked.
2.
Have fun. Push hard enough to put a little sweat on your face, but not so hard that it becomes work.
3.
Be an endurance mom. Mothering is a long job as well as a hard job.
4.
Stay in shape. A little sag is inevitable, but most of the gravity of growing old can be overcome with the booster rocket of exercise. Remember, no mother is ever too old to become fit. Even if you have not taken care of your body for years, it is forgiving and resilient. So renew yourself! Exercise.
5.
A smart mother looks for ways to stay strong. Take the stairs, avoid the elevator and escalator. Give your car a rest while you use your legs--your most important organ. Lose the TV remote. Then lose the TV. They're anti-exercise machines.
6.
Each mom needs to have good fuel for her movement machine. Eat well, and eat smart. Keep good energy in your tank, but don't overflow.
7.
Mothers need to keep their muscles strong. Put them to work. Both the arms and legs are made to be used. Your bones will thank you for the work you give them.
8.
Don't be a stiff mom. Keep stretching. Stay loose. Each day stretch to the sky. Stretch to your toes. Leave no rust in the joints. Be an exclamation point, not a comma.
9.
Mothers need to be balanced. Work to maintain your sense of equilibrium. Don't fall down. The one-legged flamingo stand is a good trick to practice to keep a keen sense of balance.
10.
Mothers need to exercise today to preserve all of their yesterdays and ensure all of their tomorrows.
