The holiday feeding frenzy lasts from Thanksgiving through New Year's--five weeks of continuous parties and potential gorging that can cause waistline worry and holiday season dread.
At this time of year, there are calories everywhere--in the chips and beer you consume during football games, in the cookie tray a neighbor dropped by. With so much temptation, even ordinarily sensible eaters succumb. "Intellectually, we know what we're supposed to do," says Dennis Glafkides, a doctor specializing in weight control. "But suddenly, when we're confronted with the sights, smells, and tastes of holiday traditional food, most people say, 'The heck with it, I'm going to overeat.'"
