ThirdAge Investment Glossary

Hedge

An investment strategy or philosophy designed to avoid or minimize the risk of investment loss. For example, a long put in a stock you own can serve as a hedge against falling stock prices. Selling short and simultaneously buying a call for the same underlying stock is another example of a common hedge.
