Pointers for a Positively Perfect Portfolio

Here we share some basic truths about investing and some not so basic things to consider in your portfolio mix. A careful study of recommended asset mixes from four prominent financial firms and eminent experts indicates that they share much of the same advice--and like all good investing advice, it's very basic.

The Basics

arrow A fixed-weight strategy, with rebalancing at least annually,
    is an excellent strategy.

arrow Avoid market timing.

arrow Moderate risk by mixing stocks and debt.

arrow The more time, the more stocks.

arrow Everyone should hold some stocks, even a conservative
   80-year-old couple.

Not So Basic Truths

arrow Diversify your stocks. Always have an exposure to
   large-value and large-growth stocks.

arrow International stocks are for everyone, with the possible
   exception of the elderly.

arrow Age determines investing strategy.

arrow Avoid the emerging international stock markets.
