The ThirdAge Retirement Troubleshooter

I can always move in with the kids
Jeff Fleming shares a quote he heard: "I have seen many single parents taking care of 6 kids, but I have yet to see 6 kids taking care of a single parent."

Consolidating households is always a great way of lowering expenses. It also provides access to support if you need special care. However, it can cause great emotional strain on all the parties involved. So, before you bank your future on this financial escape hatch, ask yourself: Do you really want to live with your kids? Do your kids really want to live with you?

If the answer is really "yes," set some rules in the beginning. Come to an understanding about how finances and space will be shared or kept separate. This will reduce the potential stress of a family suddenly thrown into close quarters.
