Basic Mouse Skills
Here are some basic mouse skills you'll need to master in order to use the Brain Boosters.
Using Your Mouse
Click
This is the simplest action with a mouse. Move your cursor until it's sitting on top of whatever you want to click (a picture, a link) and push your mouse button down once and release quickly. If your mouse has two buttons, use the LEFT button.
Double-Click
Like the name implies, you click--but twice--in very rapid succession. If the second click is not immediately after the first, or if your cursor moves in between, then it won't be a double-click. Double-clicks are often used to open things like files, folders or links.
Left vs. Right Click
If you use a Macintosh, you probably only have one mouse button. But if you're on a PC, you can click the right button of your mouse to get "context sensitive information." For example, if you right click, you'll often get a box with a list of options for that object.
Click and Hold
If you're on a Mac, the equivalent of a right click is a "click and hold." You push your mouse button down, but don't release it. After a second or two, a box will appear with options.
Scroll Bar
The scroll bar can usually be found on the right or bottom of a window that's not large enough to display all the information it contains. You can "scroll" through the window by either clicking on the arrows at the top and bottom of the scroll bar, or by clicking and holding on the scroll bar box and then moving your cursor.
Drag and Drop
This refers to "picking up" an object with your mouse, "dragging it" (moving it) to another location, and then "dropping it." To drag and drop, put your mouse on top of an object (such as an icon or file), click down with your left mouse button and hold the button down. Without letting the button go, move your mouse. You'll notice that the object will move with your mouse. When you are where you want to be, let go of the button.
