In 2007, Susan made news headlines after she asked the show for medical leave, in an attempt to treat her ongoing battle with fibromyalgia. Thankfully, the medical leave was short lived, and Susan continues to work on the show, despite her chronic condition.

At the age of 30, Hastings was diagnosed with fibromyalgia which eventually forced him into early retirement. In 2004, Hastings used his status as Captain Mike to bring awareness to the condition by teaming up with a nutritional company called Enzymatic Therapy. Mike promoted their supplements geared toward people suffering from the chronic pain disorder by touring health food stores throughout Los Angeles, and providing customers with information about vitamin supplements used to help reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia.
