Question
I am going to see a Rheumatologist tomorrow to see if I have fibromyalgia, what can I expect?
I really believe I have it and would be relieved to finally get a diagnoses so I can get proper treatment. I have been waiting a long time for this appointment and I am excited but also am wondering what I can expect and also what kind of questions I should ask. I already take flexeril and that helps but I still am in a lot of pain and almost on a daily basis, what can I say to get him to take my pain seriously but not sound like a sissy whiner? I am only 24 but am in a lot of pain and also very tired and it makes me feel old and sad that I am young but feel so old : ( I also have a lot of other typical fibromyalgia symptoms like ibs, hyperactive bladder, and occasional insomnia. Also, should I tell him I take benadryl every night to sleep? Basically, what kind of questions will I need to answer and what does he need to know? Should I tell him that I cry sometimes from being so tired that I feel I can't do what I want? Should I tell him every little detail of my problem or just wait until he asks for things specifically? Can I expect to go home with some good pain relievers? I know I am rambling on but any help would really be great! THANKSHow long do you think this appointment will last since I am a new patient?

could be as little as 15 minutes...he will ask a few questions move you around--if your lucky do a tenderpoint exam and throw you out after mumbling something inaccurate.you don't mention having blood tests and imaging studies and ruling out lymes, ms, hormone/vitamin problems and many more thingsthe symptoms of many things mimic FMSmost docs are clueless about FMS--they use it as a general label for pain and diagnose any ache or pain as FMS---thats wrong...you have to research and makes sure he or the other doctors have gone through the proper diagnostic procedures ---especially many blood tests and some type of xray of a main site or your spinehow long has this been going on?look up lyme literate MDask for the FULL Epstein Barr Panel--I had Mono for 10 months
