The woman who spilled the beans about John Edwards extramarital affair is called Pigeon OBrien, an almost perfect Dickensian name. She lives in Asheville and has finally decided to share why she tipped off the National Enquire about the former Vice Presidential candidates illicit romance.
She says she had been a longtime friend of Lisa Druck, now known as Rielle Hunter -- no real surprise why Rielle changed her name, is there? --- who told her about her relationship with a certain John from North Carolina.
Around that time, rumors started flying and the Enquirer tracked down Pigeon, friend of Rielle. I made one phone call simply to take the pressure off myself because I couldn't live with it anymore," Pigeon has now explained to a reporter from the Charlotte Observer. Uh-huh.
And was she paid while she took the pressure off? Yes, but she says she just doesnt remember how much. The Enquirer went on to expose the affair in 2007.
A grand jury in Raleigh is reportedly near the end of a two-year investigation into whether Edwards violated campaign finance laws in covering up the affair. He is still involved with Rielle and their child as well as caring for his two children from his marriage to Elizabeth Edwards.
But Pigeon isnt the first friend who just couldnt resist sharing. Remember Linda Tripp, whom a certain Monica Lewinsky confided in? And, the truth is, most of us if we know something that juicy would be tempted to spill as well. Just ask yourself: How many times have you learned something you said you would never, never repeat? "I just think it's important to realize the truth comes out in a million different ways," Pigeon said. And the primary way, we think, is by tellinga friend and swearingher tosecrecy.
