Are Straightening Irons Safe for Everyday Use?

QUESTION: I've been using straightening irons on my hair for a while; are they safe to use every day?

ANSWER: Over the past few years, straightening irons have become the must-have tool for the hair, and with the advanced ceramic technology, they are much less damaging than the old iron plates. The new ceramic technology means we can seal in natural oils and moisture -- giving straighter, smoother hair that lasts twice as long as before.

The straightening irons will only achieve this result and keep your hair in great condition if used correctly. In the salon I always use ceramic straighteners and advise my clients to use a protection spray before the straighteners. Apply this to the hair when dry; the protection spray is the best way to further protect the hair against the heat of the straighteners to create smooth, static free-hair.

My last tip would be to take hair in fine sections, not thick ones, as you will end up straightening the same section repeatedly. Used correctly, you can use straighteners every day. If you need more advice, feel free to pop into your salon.
