Welcome to ThirdAge's Hair group!
Here nothing is off-limits. We'll talk frizz, we'll talk horrible haircuts, we'll talk fabulous products, and we'll talk at-home treatments.
To start, I welcome you to share your hair nightmares, great products, tips, and techniques, and ask questions about your most pressing hair-care issues.
Over the years, I've developed my own haircare system, and I think it's working pretty well. Of course, genetics probably has something to do with my limited strands of gray, as well as how well my hair has (so far!) maintained its luster, but I'd like to think that the time and effort I've taken in figuring out what suits me best -- in terms of products, daily care, and habits -- has paid off.
One of the things I think that has made a difference is my backwards routine.
I have an oily scalp. Always have. Always will. I also have long hair. So, the problem that I face is oily scalp/split ends syndrome. At some point in my mid-20s I had the idea to reverse the shampoo-condition process and began conditioning my hair before I shampooed. It worked! And I've done it that way ever since.
So, what are your favorite secrets or tips? Share them here. Likewise, if you've got an issue, put it on the table so your fellow ThirdAgers can advise you.
And if you've got an oily scalp but dry ends, try my trick and let me know if it works for you!
Condition first, hmm, interesting!
I thought your backwards routine was interesting. I'm thinking that maybe by doing that it would kind of help detangle the hair first before shampooing. My problem is that my hair is falling out drastically fast and is baby fine. The baby fine texture makes it easier to knot up so when I brush it and hit a tangle, I usually pull out about 20 more hairs along with the tangle. I usually dont feel the tangle when I pull out the hair, so I'm thinking that it was hair just waiting to fall out. I too have long hair down to the middle of my back after having 8 inches cut off/trimmed. I want to keep my long hair but my loose pony tails are only as big around as my thumb and I have really small hands. Its depressing. I will try your backwards routine and see if it helps and give you feedback. At this point, I'm willing to try anything to save my hair!!!
