Hair Raising Costs

LYNNE HAIG, PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER

Lynne has more reason than most to make sure that every hair is perfectly in place.

As a member of the Rockettes cheerleaders, she dances at Scottish Rocks basketball games, has to look her very best at dozens of high-profile promo events through the year and is always posing for pictures.

The 25-year-old, of Crossford, Lanarkshire, spends pounds 55 ($85) every six weeks on a cut and color.

But that's just the bare minimum as she will also visit the stylists before a big Rockettes event, night out, job interview or special occasion, such as a wedding.

And she always fills her shopping basket with the latest products to look after her dyed blonde hair.

She said: "I do spend a lot of time and money on my hair, but it's something I've always done and I like to look my best.

"It's the same with most of my friends and I think a lot of girls are the same.

"Especially as a Rockette, I always have to make sure my hair is right for performances. For a big night out, or a game we're performing at, I'll spend an hour and a half doing my hair.

"When we're dancing, I always have to use loads of hairspray to make sure it stays in place for the whole game, as it's a lot of work. I think pounds 9000 in a lifetime sounds like a lot of money to spend on your hair.

"But it all adds up and I'd be scared to think how much I spend. It also takes a lot of my time.

"I don't so much in the morning because I have an early start for school.

"But for a normal night out, I'll be about 45 minutes. And for a big night out, it could easily be 90 minutes.

"My boyfriend doesn't mind though. I think he's got used to it."
