Hairstyles and Nail Trends That Turn Heads

Sure, they say the clothes make the man (or woman), but without the right canvas, you might as well go naked. OK, not really. This is not advocating using a bad hair day as an excuse to go streaking down the street. Frizz happens; it's not worth getting arrested over.

However, a flattering haircut or eye-catching nail polish can make a difference, brightening up any outfit you may choose.

Hair Trends
1. The Gwyneth, or at least that's what it should be called. The longer, graduated bob that actress Gwyneth Paltrow has been sporting of late is hitting trend lists galore. It's graduated: shorter in back, longer in front. In the parlance of our word-combining times, it's often referred to as a lob (for long bob).

2. Go natural. Long, tousled waves are a great complement to the ruffles that are showing up on clothing across the country. Think Victoria's Secret model hair. You can have the hair even without the body.

3. Let's go bang. Blunt, sideswept, choppy or otherwise, bangs are the thing. Longer, eyebrow-grazing bangs can be pushed aside or pinned up for versatility. Short, Buster Brown-style bangs don't permit quite as many options.

4. Pixie cuts. Fairies are rarely drawn with short hair, so no telling why a choppy, short do is called a pixie cut. Name aside, however, a short, gamine cut (think Victoria Beckham, or better yet, Audrey Hepburn in "Sabrina") is another hot look for fall.

5. Accessories, accessories. Flowers, feathers and bows, oh my. Bright colors are hot for fall, but if the idea of an electric blue sweater is too much, try a headband in an eye-catching teal. Brides, take note: Drew Barrymore rocked a floral fascinator with a birdcage veil to the "Grey Gardens" premiere this past April.
