Kim Kardashian was wagging more than her famous derriere in Los Angeles at the recent Do Something Awards, an event that honors do- gooders of all kinds. Kardashian wore her long dark hair in a ponytail, a style seen everywhere now at red carpet events.
Model and actress Rachel Nichols wore one slicked down tight on the top and sides at the Aug. 11 premier of "Conan the Barbarian," in which she plays the love interest. It created a clean palette for her flaming lips and daring "backless" gown (actually covered in sheer illusion).
Actress Janelle Ortiz, of the Disney comedy "Prom," wore a version of the popular pompadour ponytail, also called the "bump," at the awards event.
Ponytails were popular here at spring proms and summer weddings, said Delores Dement, stylist at Gould's Day Spa & Salon at Park Place Center, and she expects to see more for the holidays. "With our lifestyles, people want something that's nice, stylish and easy," she said. We know how to get our hair up, but a few extra steps will give that upscale Hollywood polish.
To create the slick style, add styling gel to your wet hair (Dement likes Bumble and Bumble Multi-Talented Sculpting Gel), blow it dry, brush it back into the ponytail band, wind a strand of hair around the band to cover it, and pin. She likes to finish with Moroccanoil's Glimmer Shine Spray to create high shine and keep hair slick. You may also pin an antique brooch on the ponytail or wind a strand of pearls around it and pin.
