Q & A: What's the Right Cut for Fine, Thin Hair
Posted August 27, 2007 3:38 PM

QUESTION: I have baby-fine hair with thin spots. Would a short or long hairstyle be better for me?
ANSWER: Your best bet is a short cut. Long, fine hair tends to lie limp, and its length can actually emphasize areas of thinning hair. Try a close-cropped cut with a few layers, which add texture and can create the illusion of more hair. A pixie would look great, but if you're shy about going that short, try a shag for a bit more movement.
To really maximize the volume and texture of your short cut, use either a hair wax or paste (apply the product to dry hair.) These products create a chunky look that's flattering and forgiving of fine, thin hair.
