Owen says the irons -- which come in two sizes -- are much heavier and larger than normal devices, more "like something you would find in a do-it-yourself shop than a hairdressers" -- and they are much hotter. But the result is that they can flatten even the curliest of curls.
When she tried the irons, Owen found that her hairdresser first separated her dried hair into sections and smoothed the irons down each part. "This took seconds, and within 20 minutes all my curls had vanished, my hair was straighter than it has ever been before, and best of all, it stayed that way for two days until I washed it again."
The irons don't come cheap -- about $125 for the larger size, slightly less for the smaller version. And Owen has a few words of warning: "Unless you want to risk damaging your hair, limit yourself to using the irons only once a week."
