Anne Hathaway
As the nights hostess, Hathaway braved eight costume changes and hairstylesbut it was her feminine, loose updo at the beginning of the evening that was the most memorable.
First, blow dry the hair, bring volume to the roots with a full-volume mousse and put a little chigon in the back, hairstylist Frdric Fekkai, who styled many of the Oscar starlets, told the Today Show.
Thenpin a soft curl on the front to give it a bohemian, chic look.
The versatile updo can also be worn with jeans or a gown, Fekkai adds.
Melissa Leo
Although Leo may have shocked the crowd with a f-bomb during her acceptance speech, her hairstyle was all glamour and class.
Hairstylist Creighton Bowman tells stylist.com he created a tousled updo to give Leo a youthful, fresh look.
After applying detangling milk (Leonor Greyl Lait Luminescence) to Leos towel-dried hair to create a soft texture, Bowman added an alcohol-free styling gel (Gel a la Keratine) for volume.
Bowman then reveals the simple trick for keeping the hair up all nightone hair tie and four hairpins.
"Keeping it up goes to putting the back up first. You part right across the top of the head from ear to ear and you take that whole back section and really slick it up tight into a high ponytail, then wrap it into a bun, Bowman explained to stylist.com.
Then you bring the top into it -- that way it still has a loose look, sort of like as if it's not being held up. But because the back is a separate ponytail piece, it sort of holds it really tight and really in place. Believe it or not, it was one hair tie and then it was four hairpins. That's it." Halle Berry For all the fashion don'ts at award shows, you can always count on Berry to look divineand she didnt disappoint at the Oscars. To get Berrys spiked pixie cut, Fekkai says all youll need is some wax. Warm up [wax] in your hands first, Fekkai explained on the Today Show. Make sure it is very thin in your hands, and use it like you were using a towel. Keep it flat on the sides and messy on top. More important than having great bone structure and a captivating set of eyes, Fekkai adds, youll need a confident attitude to pull off a pixie cut. Reese Witherspoon Although she wasnt nominated, Witherspoon wowed the Oscar crowd with a retroyet modernponytail. Stylist.com writes Frdric Fekkai hairstylist Renato Campora first prepped the hair with spray gel to create lift and texture. After blow-drying her strands with a large round brush to add volume, Campora styled the hair: [Campora] divided the hair into two sections and used a 1 and a half-inch curling iron to create movement and volume on the bottom layer. The roots were teased before setting the look with Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray.
Amy Adams Adams may have lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to her Fighter costar, but many fashion critics have crowned her sexy, side-swept finger waves as the top hairstyle of the night. To achieve Adams look, use hot rollers. First, make sure you have a part on the side, Fekkai says. Then, make sure the hair tips are secured around the roller, and roll out towards the scalp. After you finish rolling, the rollers should be vertical and flat against the scalp. After taking out the hot rollers, Fekkai says to hairspray a brush and gently comb the curls.
