Causes of Pancreatitis


Causes include:

  • Certain medications
  • Unknown causes (approximately 15% of cases)
  • Elevated blood triglyceride levels (hypertriglyceridemia)
  • Infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic)
  • HIV and AIDS infection
  • Congenitally abnormal pancreas duct (pancrease divisum)
  • Complication of ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)
