How does whooping cough attack and spread?
Bordetella pertussis, bacteria only found in human beings, is what causes the whooping cough. This particular bacterium attacks the respiratory system by destroying the thin hairs used to filter harmful particles as you breathe while also creating toxins. A person who is infected with the whooping cough spreads this disease by droplets expelled in the air as he or she coughs. This disease can also be spread by contact with hard surfaces that have been infected by these droplets.
