effoxor xr 37.5 yes or no?
i have been getting depressed and its been a downhill slide and cant seem to control it anymore and my anxiety has also been picking up i don't know what to do anymore so ive been prescribed effexor 37.5 but i see so many bad side effects.. i need to get this under control and ive been trying on my own for years now due to the fact i don't like medication but i feel like this is out of my control anymore i don't think my brain was equipped with the right tools to overcome these problems.. anyway could someone please give me some feedback on these pills i cant decide if i should take them and maybe get better or have worse problems or just continue to not enjoy my life but not worry about being addicted to a pill or the other horrible side effects of it
37.5 is a very, very low dose, and doesn't come with the high risk of withdrawl or bad side effects that you see with doses above 150mg. At higher doses, that's when the full effects kick in.
At the low dose, it acts just like a SSRI, and does quite well at that.
As antidepressants go, Effexor is pretty devoid of side-effects, actually. You'll find a long shopping list of adverse effects when you look it up, but given the nature of the studies and the percentages, I would take it with a grain of salt. From a medical standpoint, it's one of the best drugs for depression out there. If you feel like your depression is spinning out of control, a trial of this drug is strongly recommended. The only downside is that people often feel worse before they feel better when starting an antidepressant, and 3-4 weeks are required before its therapeutic effect may be felt. Start the drug, try to surround yourself with support from family and friends, be patient, and give it a chance to work. If it doesn't, work with your mental health provider on the next step.
