How does smoking cigarettes cause pneumonia?
Smoking cigerates present oxidative stress on the body. The chemicals inhaled from the cigarettes can cause the lungs to build up on mucus which could result in an excess of mucus in the lungs which becomes pneumonia.
It weakens the lung's defenses and limits the ability of the lungs to process oxygen, both of which allow infection to enter the body more easily.
