Symptoms of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer can easily be missed. That's because the symptoms aren't painful and probably won't interfere in your daily life.

Most of the time, skin cancer first manifests itself as a small change in the skin - such as a newly-formed growth or a sore that doesn't heal. It can appear as a:

  • Pearly or waxy bump
  • Scar-like lesion
  • Firm, red nodule
  • Lesion that bleeds or crusts
  • Large brownish spot with darker speckles
  • Mole that changes color or shape, or has an irregular border

These growths are most likely appear on parts of the body that are most exposed to the sun, such as the face, ears and neck; or arms and hands. If you see something unusual forming on your skin, make an appointment with your dermatologist as soon as possible.
