How does sex cause a kidney infection?

Sex does not cause kidney infections directly. Sex can sometimes lead to bacteria entering into the urethra, causing a urinary tract infection. This is why it is important to urinate after having sexual intercourse. It is when these urinary tract infections go untreated that you are likely to develop a kidney infection. Urinate after you have sex and make sure to see your physician if you develop any signs of a urinary tract infection. This will minimize your chances of getting a kidney infection.
