Is It Safe to Take Aspirin and Acetaminophen Together?

Question: My husband had a heart attack two years ago. He has to take aspirin every day along with other heart medications. Is it safe for him to take Tylenol®? Should we stop the aspirin a day if he takes Tylenol® instead?

Answer: Regarding the Tylenol® (acetaminophen), it's not going to interfere with the aspirin, and vice versa. If he's just taking one aspirin a day to try to prevent the next heart attack, then there is no contraindication or cross-reaction to taking acetaminophen.
