Is the New Cartilage Transplant Procedure Successful?
Question: Is there any success with the new cartilage transplant procedure (OATS procedure)?
Answer: The best thing for you to do is to discuss this procedure with an orthopedic surgeon who has experience in performing it. I am not a surgeon and have never done a cartilage transplant, nor do I know any patient who has had one.
With any new type of procedure like this, there is usually an increase of its success at the start, followed by a plateau. I have no problem with surgery, including cartilage transplant, as long as you know very well the statistical outcome measures and the potential complications of the surgery or anesthesia. If you have the surgery, consider post-operative acupuncture to accelerate the healing and decrease pain.
