Relieving Arthritis Pain
Question: My mom, who is in her 80s, has crippling arthritis in her hands. She also has it in her knees, where the swelling has gotten so bad she can't move them. All we were told was to use Advil and Bengay, yet these drugs do not seem to work, and Capsaicin cream set her on fire. What can I do for her?
Answer:
I'm sorry you've only been told to try Advil and Bengay. There is so much more you can do to treat osteoarthritis, and I'm very optimistic that much of your mother's pain can be diminished and her mobility increased.
I would start by examining your mom's diet and substituting high-fat foods such as red meat with alkaline foods such as grains, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, I would make sure that your mom drinks plenty of water. Supplements such as chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine, both naturally occurring products, are also very effective in helping to heal arthritis pain.
