Does Climate Affect Arthritis Pain?

Question: What impact do certain weather conditions, or the general climate of a particular region, have on osteoarthritis pain?

Answer: It is well known that cold weather can worsen osteoarthritis symptoms. Thus, many arthritis patients find relief in the dry, hot climate of the southwest. Other patients seek out warm yet humid climates, such as that of south Florida. Reactions to a more humid climate have varied, however--some patients are helped and some are not.

Regardless of climate, the most important ingredient in an osteoarthritis pain management program is movement. Exercise such as yoga keeps your joints flexible and blood flowing. Another therapy for arthritis pain is acupuncture.
