My Meds Cause Reflux and Stomach Pain
Question: My regular M.D. has me on Feldene, but I suffer from acidic condition. Lately, I have had reflux and stomach pain. I asked him for a new medication but he said it would make me ill. What can I do?
Answer: Feldene is one of the older anti-inflammatory drugs on the market and can cause gastrointestinal upset or ulcers. Try taking acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) for pain, as it does not cause these symptoms. You need to discuss with your physician ways to treat reflux symptoms, which include over-the-counter products such as Zantac (a histamine receptor antagonist) taken at bedtime. Also, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and keep the head of your bed elevated.
