Appetite Control

Guys fear that, as metabolism slows with age, it will be easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. Guys grappling with midlife munchies can beat this all too common condition by adopting a few simple behaviors.

Action Rx:
Guys who eat in between meals or habitually overeat need to first evaluate whether they are consuming a healthy diet or drinking enough water. Many people misinterpret hunger for thirst. Also, overeating may be a sign of nutritional inadequacies in the diet. Fundamentally, along with exercising more, the following measures will help keep the appetite in check:

  • Eat a fiber-filled breakfast such as oatmeal.
(Studies have shown that oatmeal makes people feel full longer than almost any other food.)

  • Do aerobic exercise at least four times a week.
(This helps speed up metabolism and quell hunger.)

  • Drink a lot of water.
(At least ten, eight ounce glasses a day.)

  • Fill up on water before and during parties so you consume less alcohol.
(Control alcohol intake as alcohol often stimulates people to overeat.)

  • Snack on high fiber foods.
(For example: carrots, celery, apples or other fruits.)

  • Drink calming herbal teas such as chamomile or valerian.
(These fill you up and calm you down.)
