Many guys have heard of gallstones, but are clueless about gallbladder disease prevention. There are many simple ways you can cut the risks of developing gallbladder problems.

  • Exercise: Regular exercise has been proven to help reduce the risk of gallbladder disease.

  • Diet: Although gallbaldder problems can run in families, eating a lot of fats, especially animal fats, in meat, lard, cheese, or butter, may also lead to the development of gallstones or gall bladder disease. Also note that polyunsaturated fats such as safflower oil, sunflower oil, and corn oil may play a role in creating gallstones or gall bladder disease. To cut your fat intake, cook with monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, canola oil, or flaxseed oil. Avoid margarine, as this contains the worst kind of fat from the point of view of your gallbladder and cardiovascular system. What's more, there is some evidence to suggest that maintaining adequate water intake helps lessen the opportunity for gallstones to develop.

Those who suspect the possibility of a gallbladder attack should see a physician for blood tests that check the function of the liver. Patients should also have an ultrasound, a noninvasive diagnostic method using sound waves, which can detect gallstones, an enlarged gallbladder, an abscess, or a bile duct enlargement.
