The 5 Most Regrettable Holiday Foods

  • Baked Brie A wheel of this cheese surrounded by slices of bread is almost irresistible. But the treat just isnt worth it. A 1 oz.serving (and most of us would have more than one ounce) is 90 calories, which might not sound like much until you realize that that tiny slice contains 15% of your daily allowance of saturated fat. Plus its rather aromatic, and most of us would rather not give a New Years kiss to someone with brie breath.
  • Pecan Pie Although most pies pack a high-calorie wallop, nutritionists seem to reserve their loudest condemnations for pecan pie. Depending on the size of the slice, the calorie total can be anywhere from 500 to 800, with an average of 25 grams of fat. And thats basically a meal (and in the case of the 800 calories, kind of a hearty meal.) What makes pecan pie so problematic is that there really isnt a way to lighten it up, since pecans, like most nuts, are very high in fat. And you cant have a pecan pie without pecans.
