Ever note how you get blue after eating a candy bar? You have a sudden burst of energy at first, right? But twenty minutes later you feel fatigued and a little sad? If so, you may have trouble metabolizing sugar, and you should probably stay away from any candy, especially on an empty stomach.
If youre on the go and hungry, grab a protein snack such as cheese or yogurt. Pass up sweets until youve had a good-sized meal. If youre particularly sensitive to sugar but youre out to dinner and its time for dessert, ask for a fruit cup, or order some ice cream. Theyre better choices than chocolate cream pie or chocolate mousse. Theres also a high sugar level in alcohol, so drink moderately, and only on a full stomach.
Persons who get the sugar blues have difficulty maintaining a steady sugar level in their body. While theyre satisfying their sweet tooth, their blood-sugar level is peaking. They experience immediate exhilaration, but then a rapid decline in the blood-sugar level follows, energy availability virtually goes on hold, and after a while they get a little depressed. If you have this problem, hold off on sweets and keep your blood-sugar level on a steady course.
