Former Vice President of the United States had undergone additional heart surgery last week. Announcement of this news initially surfaced today, with many outlets including Yahoo! News covering with more details:
"Former US vice president Dick Cheney had a new heart device implanted when he was operated on last week, he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Doctors implanted a pump that improves heart function in the 69-year-old Cheney at a hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, in the Washington suburbs.
The statement said the operation took place last week, without giving a date. Cheney was hospitalized in late June.
"The operation went very well and I am now recuperating," he said."
Cheney is no stranger to heart problems or heart surgery. The former US Vice President has had a number of of health scares and problems with heart disease, including his quadruple bypass surgery and two artery-clearing angioplasties.
In 2001, he was fitted with a pacemaker to assist his heart functions.
