Cutting down on salt could add up to seven years to your life, scientists said recently.
Reducing intake may also lower the risk of a heart attack by 80 percent, a study found.
Researchers discovered that just a 30 to 35 percent drop in salt was also associated with a similarly dramatic decrease in the chances of anyone under 65 dying from a stroke or heart disease over a 30-year period.
During the same time, the life expectancy of both men and women in the study increased by six to seven years.
The researchers from the University of Helsinki claimed a drop in blood pressure was the key.
