Speaking at the International AIDS conference in Washington, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared that putting an end to the disease is "a fight we can win." She punctuated her message by saying, "We have already come so far -- too far to stop now."
Using a phrase she coined in 2011 during a speech at the National Institutes of Health, Clinton talked about the goal of an "AIDS-free generation." According to several sources, she was repeatedly applauded when she reaffirmed the Obama administration's commitment to defeating the HIV/AIDS pandemic and also when she outlined financial and prevention goals.
MedPage Today reporter Michael Smith quoted Clinton as saying, "The United States is committed and will remain committed to achieving an AIDS-free generation. We will not back off, we will not back down, we will fight for the resources necessary to achieve this historic milestone."
