Newcomers are always welcome, too. Stop by for a quick hello or pull up a comfy chair and visit awhile.

Irene....

How did you do on the TV show? Did you have fun?

By oiseau
oiseau's picture

Thanks for thinking of me.

Thanks for thinking of me.  The production staff were wonderful and the experience was well worth the long day.  Alas I wasn't in the Hot Seat when the money was doled out :-(

By sha3

How fun, Irene!

Do let me know how you fare on the show. I will pulling for you and hope you are the big winner.

By oiseau
oiseau's picture

Hey there Sha;

Would you believe? I got a call from the producer, they want me on the show, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I had every intention of not going through with it but I was convinced that I'd have fun and they said I'd make a good contestant.

So for better or for worse I'm going to make a fool of myself on Oct 28, ha ha ha ha ha ha and have a good time while doing just that.

It's sort of like musical chairs so if I'm the last one in the seat I may get some money, else it's goodbye with nada and 5 minutes of my mug on TV ha ha ha ha ha

Thank you for the condolances

Yes, she did have a heart problem.

I do remember the chats that used to go on and they were so much fun. I guess people get busy with other things and move on.

Either way, it was nice to get in touch with you and share some memories. I will check in every so often to see what is going on as I progress into my third age!

Belated condolances L;

I recall that there was a heart problem. The old gang has pretty well disappeared, many have passed on too.

I hear from Pauline about once a year but all the others from Canada seem to have left and don't communicate anymore.

The ones still posting here are long time aquaintances and have met in Texas May '99, other from different discussion groups. Loyal to the end for the sake of friendship which becomes most precious after close to 12 years.

People underestimate this medium, IMHO. I have enjoyed every minute and really miss the old days when chat was a hoot and lots of fun. xoxoxoxoxo

Snowbunny

Hi Oiseau,

Yes, my mom was Snowbunny. I couldn't remember if you were at the get together or not. It was quite awhile ago.

My mom passed away very suddenly almost 3 years ago. Too soon as she was only 64 years old.

It's such a shame that this site has changed so much. BTW, that is wonderful that you moved to Australia.

So who is still around from the old gang?

Take care,

L

By oiseau
oiseau's picture

Hello - nice to have friendly faces back;

This is NOT the same as when you mom was here, we all mourn that site. No more chat, no mail, not miuch of anything that was familiar, even these discussions have changed, no edits aaaaaahhhh. We still post just to keep in touch with some of the oldies :-)

Was you mum 'snowbunny'? If so, I was there and went to Kingston as well. I lived in Canada at the time, now live in Australia.

Looking forward to 'seeing' you again. xoxoxoxo

Used to be on the "old" ThirdAge

Hi Everybody,

It's been years since I have been on this site. I was first introduced to the site by my mom who has since passed away. She spent hours on here and made some very close friends. She even arranged one or two get-together's in Toronto, ON.

Oiseau, I recognize your name from "back in the day". I would often participate in the chat rooms but I can't even find them on here anymore.

Looks like the place isn't as hopping as it used to be. Such a shame. I have tried to find the chatrooms but I don't see them on here anywhere. If there are any chats going on can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

How exciting!!!

With your knowledge you would do very well on a show like that, oiseau. Wouldn't it be great if both you and David ended up being contestants? Do keep me in touch as to how it all goes, okay?

For sure...............that reminds me, the saying, of the movie, 'Last chance Harvey' :-) Loved it xoxoxoxoxox

Seeing that we are 'among friends', I will share;

My husband (who is a Scot) has a love of trivia as I do. Our channel 9 here has a new show called 'Millionaire Hot Seat' hosted by a well loved emcee, young and handsome. :-)

Well, the other day I was convinced by hubby to fill out a form to attend the live show, what I thought was to be part of the audience...........hhhhhhmmmm

I had in fact forgotten all about it when here comes along an e-mail inviting me to attend an audition.WHAT??????

Ok, settle down, it's no big deal I tell myself. Another fun experience before checking out should be welcomed with open arms and so I did.

Quite calm, we ventured to the rendezvous where about another 150 people must have received the same invitation..............:-(

After a LONG wait we were sheparded into an auditorium (auditions were held in a Uni facility) and explained what was to transpire.

30 questions to be answered, 20 second intervals on a main screen. a, b, c, d, were to be placed on our personal sheets.

Those with 20 or under were thanked for their participation.....the rest of us were then interviewed on camera, explaining who we were etc and why were we there.

There was also a 4 page personal CV, so to speak, and I filled mine to the max. Didn't know how much stuff I'd done over the years. Would have needed another 4 pages at least, or more :-)

And that was it! We were told that our chance of getting on the show depended on demographics. If in their data base they had a lot of women my age I might never get on but if there were many young women and only few my age I might have a chance, also depending on how interesting we appear on camera and I'm sure other factors that the production staff consider requisits.

So, I may get called next week, next year or more than likely, never, ha ha ha ha ha ha

It WAS fun and I'm now glad that David conned me into this situation. He also made the grade at another audition. I was more excicted about his participation than my own. I do hope he gets on and wins a lot of money. ha ha ha ha ha

I'm sure Janet's kids will appreciate anything you might have to add about their mother. They have done a very nice job of keeping everyone in touch with what is going on.

hello again;

How pleased I am to have found your message Sha! After thinking, using my noggin a bit :-), I went to my hot mail box and sure enough there was a couple of messages from Debi, along with 200+ messages. I forget that mail still comes in there, one of the foibles of having several e-mail addresses. So, thank you for the prompt. LOVE you dear friend. xoxoxoxoxoxoxox Irene

Dear Janet;

Sadness over your passing is automatic for those who knew you. We take some kind of solace in the fact that you were taken 'home' while sleeping. How kind of HIM to treat you so sweetly. You will be missed but we are also very grateful or having shared your life for many years.

The loss of a wonderful friend.....

It is with great sadness that I report the death of our dear friend, Janet, who passed away Saturday, September 5th on her way to another of her many cruises that she enjoyed so much.

Her death is a great loss to all who knew her and enjoyed her friendship. She will be greatly missed by us all. The world has lost one of its' angels. Rest in peace, dear Janet.

Hi Sha saw this post in my bookmarks when I was cleaning them out.Looks like all the rest of the site in TA, A ghost town. Which Janet are you talking about passing?  I too meet up with most of my old TA friends in Facebook since everyone seems to have left TA. Hope you are doing well. We are getting ready for a month cruise to the S Pacific from San Francisco  and flying home from Sydney. Been a lifelong dream of mine to go to the S Pacific islands.

Hi Irene....

I've tried to encourage people to come back but it just doesn't seem to be working. :(

I sure wish Janet would post here. I've been wondering how she is doing and if she has taken any more cruises lately. She's taken so many now that I bet she has lost count.

Unfortunately, this forum isn't used very much anymore but we certainly look forward to any new friends here.

My name is Sharon and I live in the beautiful state of Colorado. I have two adult sons who are both married and two young grandsons, who are 10 months and 3 1/2 years old.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, okay?

I had given up on anyone

I had given up on anyone posting on this site, Christine, so I haven't checked it for a long time. It was nice finding your post today. I am sitting here watching one of our infamous thunder storms again this afternoon. Doesn't it seem like they are coming earlier now than they used to? They used to arrive around 3 and now they are here around noon or one. It's great for the yard and garden but I miss the afternoon sunshine. :(

Just checking in....

It's lonely around my house today so I thought I would just check in to see if anybody had posted here lately. Maybe everybody is out working in their yards or just enjoying a nice Sunday afternoon. I had planned on working in my garden but the weather has turned a little chilly and it has started to rain. Although my plants can use the water I would much rather have some sunshine.

I hope everyone is enjoying their day. It would be great if we could start posting here again. I sure miss all of the Third Age "old timers" and the great times we used to have.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS

Good morning all. My computer crashed a few months ago and when I got it back up I had to restore all my favorites. I had forgotten I put Among Friends in a folder until a couple of days ago.

Like you Roge, I don't like searching for all the discussions that used to be so close at hand
< G >

I still post in Grandparenting and Spirituality and now I'm back in Among Friends.

A lot of us "oldtimers" have joined Facebook where we keep in touch.

Some started a new group of discussions in Seniorocity.

So, we are spread far and wide now. We all miss the closeness we had here in TA, but the powers that be decided we were "old history" and didn't consider us when they revamped this place. We have asked repeatidly for some of the options that would make this site more user friendly (i.e. a delete option), but they have turned a deaf ear to us and won't even reply to our inquires.

But, we push on and still some of us are too stubborn to let them win. LOL!

Hi Roge and Sha, I am glad

Hi Roge and Sha, I am glad to see you all here. I just came in and put a post at the Fuddies forum and thought I would stop by. I will keep this one on my list. I am still at Facebook and I also do Vent here which is a political and current events forum, not everyone's cup of tea.

Good to see you both. I have a big garden this year and we are enjoying retirement. Sha, where did you go on your vacation? Roge, sounds like you are now retired and enjoying being a grandmother.

Hi to Jan and Jeanette also!

By sha3
sha3's picture

Hi Roge.....

How good to see you again! There aren't too many of the old Third Age posters around anymore.

There are a few that post in Jeanette's Grandparenting forum: http://www.thirdage.com/grandparenting/discussions/grandparenting-iii-ho....

And there are several that post in Oiseau's Spirituality group: http://www.thirdage.com/spirituality/discussions/the-new-spirituality-pa...

You might stop by there and see if you recognize anyone. I still read the posts in the discussion groups but it just isn't the same as it used to be. What a fun time we use to have. I really miss the friendships that we developed through this site.

I finally got to enter the ranks of grandparenthood several years ago and now have two little grandsons. One is 3 1/2 and the other is 9 months old. I watch them every Monday and totally enjoy my time with them. However I do wonder at times why my kids couldn't have had children about ten years ago when my energy level was a little higher. LOL

I hope all is well with you and that you are still active and enjoying life. I would love to hear what you have been up to.

(((HUGS)))

Hi Sha--So nice to see you

Hi Sha--So nice to see you here. I had a terrible time trying to find Among Friends and finally scrolled through about 8 pages of discussion board listings to find it! I thought of you last June when I passed through Denver on a tour. We visited several railroads in CO and enjoyed it all very much.

I saw that Oiseau was hosting a couple of discussions but I haven't visited them yet.  It just seems too hard to get around in here compared to how it was before. We really did have a fun time here and the trip to San Antonio was great--can you believe that was 10 years ago?

I agree that our children should have kids while we're still young enough to chase them. I just spent four days with four granddaughters while their parents were in New Orleans. Since the youngest one is almost 5, it wasn't too much a matter of chasing, but I was tired at the end of the day!!! My youngest (a boy) will soon be three--they grow up too fast.

Nice to "see" you again.  ((HUGS)) back.

Whew! Things are so different!

Hi, everybody. It's been absolutely ages since I've been here and it is so different that I had a hard time finding you all. It's nice to see that many of the same folks are here and that Janet keeps on the move. I guess I let real life get in the way of my cyber life, but I will try to check in more often.

Thank you Sha and Jeanette :-)

Everyone said South America looked like Alaska on the west side and around Cape Horn at the bottom, but then things warmed up on the east coast headed north. That is why it was so hard to pack, went from cold to hot in a short amount of time. Also, the sun shone 18 hours some of the days depending on where you were.

It sure has been crazy weather this winter with both you ladies having such warm weather. We in FL just went through 3 days of freezing temps. Not to my liking at all LOL

By sha3
sha3's picture

Welcome back, Janet!

So glad to hear that your cruise went well and that you returned home safe and sound. I'm hoping your PET scan will go well tomorrow also. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you.

It has been nice here lately .... high 60's to low 70's I think. That's not unusual for us at this time of the year but it usually means that we will get the cold and snow in March. My son is getting married March 21st so I'm looking for a blizzard about that time. :-)

By mygirls
mygirls's picture

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS

Wow!

I never thought of South America and glaciers and penquins. But then I guess the southern tip is pretty far south.

Sounds like that would be a cruise that my bil and sil would like to take. They have done the Alaskan cruise and really were wow'd by the glaciers there.

If you have any pictures and would like to post them, let me know, or just email them to us. LOL!

We'll be crossing our fingers on your PET scan tomorrow.

We are beginning to warm up again. Tomorrow will be in the 70's and they say Friday will be in the 80's. What we need is rain. It hasn't been this dry since 1857 according to the news tonight.

Can't wait to hear more about the cruise as you get rested.

By janetp
janetp's picture

Hi everyone!

Got back from the South American cruise Sunday. It really was a very interesting part of the world. The glaciers were really pretty and their summer day is 18 hours long now. Oddly enough, they don't get much snow down there. Got to see the penquins at Falkland Islands too. Also I gained 6 lbs. :-0

Tomorrow morning is my PET scan. The doctor said he would probably get the results by next week.

Hope everyone is managing to keep warm during this cold snap we are having.
