Harley-Davidson Motorcycles a Love Affair for Baby Boomers

Harley-Davidson motorcycles... Hogs... The name says it all.

The music, the styles, and the culture of the baby boomer generation still seem to reverberate today. In fact, one of the most iconic pieces in baby boom history is the Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. A success with baby boomers then, and now, boomers are now able to see the innovative modifications for three new Harley models in 2011. Details of three new Harleys are being released - leaving boomers chomping at the bit for more. The new motorcycles feature a number of comforts though which may go against some of the thoughts and ideals boomers hold onto when it comes to Harleys. Regardless, the Harley-Davidson motorcycle love affair is coming back for baby boomers and younger generations alike.

Popular celebrities, including Jay Leno, Bruce Willis, also have helped elevate the once-naughty Harley hog to a new level of respectability. And now, with 32 models including urban brawlers, long-haul touring machines, contemporary customs drenched in chrome, dark retro-style bobbers, exhilarating sport roadsters and inviting standards, Harley-Davidson introduces the new SuperLow, XR1200X and Road Glide Ultra models with its expansive line of 2011-model-year motorcycles.

Unfortunately, Harley sales have been diminishing with the hard fall of the American economy. However, experts who looked at this marketing quagmire could be underestimating the power of Boomer branding and how extensively Boomer cool is being embraced by young people today. These experts must be ignoring how clothing styles from the sixties have become the hottest fashion look among women under 30. Or that rock music lovers can expect to compete with Generation Y fans for Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, and Paul McCartney concert tickets. Boomer styles are being reinvented and are resonating with our childrens generation.

When the economy rebounds the flow of Boomer money will rebound and the demand will fill showrooms. The large population of boomers will always find money for what they need."A Harley is a statement of individuality, and it has as much to do with the sound as anything else. A Harley is always going to have a certain lope, that 'potato-potato' sound to it, says one boomer biker. The Harley badness and riding culture will live as long as we never forget what freedom means in American culture: an endless road, the ride, and personal journey in pursuit of happiness.
