Boomer Moms Share Their Wish Lists

What We Want for Mother's Day

With Mother's Day 2012 coming up, we decided to ask ThirdAgers what they'd love to get from their families this Sunday. Not surprisingly, the gift of time was at the top of many women's lists. Other mothers, though, had some fun and quirky requests. Here's what they all told us: "A day to do what I want! And for my daughter to do everything else! I would love a day at the beach, just chilling!" Mary Sullivan, 52, Port Charlotte, Florida "I want time. But not just any old time. I want time to piddle. I want time to read uninterrupted. I want time where I have no worries. I want time without anything to 'handle' for any other family member. I want time to be silent. I want time to dream without judgment. I want time without expectations of productivity. I want time that is peaceful with no clock watching. I want time to create art, sing, sleep, and do with as I please. And I could have all this without anyone spending a penny! That's what I want most! Every mother, no matter what their age, would like many items from my list. Darla Arni, 55, Slater, Missouri   "What I'd like for Mother's Day is a couple of interruption-free hours to scrapbook followed by dinner prepared at home or at a restaurant.   Trish Sweeney, 49, Irvine, California

"I would love a Pandora Bracelet, a box of See's Candies and a Silpat non-stick baking mat. What I would really love would be for my kids to surprise me with something fun!"
Janet DaPirano (Foust), 51, Petaluma, California

"For Mother's day my two daughters, 21 and 17, are taking me to see Blink 182 in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I love their music but truthfully, it doesn¹t really matter what it is, as long as we all get to spend time together."

Kerri Zane, 54, Los Angeles, California

"Seriously. I have friends who want time off at the spa on 'Mother's Day'. Not me. I mother because I have children.
I want undivided attention from my family on mother's day. Board games. Walks. Boat rides. Sit down meals. And hugs."
Sheryl Hill, 55, Minneapolis, Minnesota

"Regarding what I want for Mother's Day??? A mega-pack of yoga classes would be my pick!"
Dina Ramon, 49, Rowayton, Connecticut

"Feeling a little nostalgic this Mother's Day, I asked my husband and two sons to buy me a complete Dark Shadows DVD collection. I was born in 1960 and remember racing home from school to watch the show. I had terrible nightmares but couldn't resist watching. It's hard to believe that I was in elementary school when it first aired. Who says you can't go back!"
Tina Koenig, 51, Hollywood, Florida
