A retiree is given a set of golf clubs by his co-workers.
The man knows nothing about the game, but he thinks he'll give it a try. He goes to a local course and asks the pro for lessons. The two go to the first tee and the pro shows him the stance and swing, then says, "Just hit the ball toward the flag on the first green."
The novice tees up and smacks the ball straight down the fairway and onto the green, where it stops inches from the hole.
"Now what?" the fellow asks the speechless pro.
"Now you're supposed to hit the ball into the cup," the pro finally says.
"Oh, great. Now you tell me," says the beginner.
