Abraham Lincoln ran for Congress in 1846. During the campaign, he attended a church service where the minister called on everyone who wanted to go to heaven to stand up. Everyone but Lincoln rose.
"Now I want everyone to rise who wants to go to hell," said the minister.
Lincoln remained seated.
"I'm surprised to see Abe Lincoln sitting back there unmoved by these appeals," said the preacher. "If Mr. Lincoln does not want to go to heaven and does not want to escape hell, perhaps he will tell us where he does want to go."
Lincoln rose slowly and replied, "I am going to Congress."
