Painless Magnetic Bladder Therapy

More women than men are affected by incontinence and a new non-invasive treatment -- the NeoControl Pelvic Floor Therapy System -- could mean many more years of effective bladder control for thousands of women with the disorder, developers say.

The NeoControl Pelvic Floor Therapy System recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration has the patient sit in a chair embedded with magnetic technology. Induced magnetic fields create muscle contractions in the pelvic floor to build strength and endurance, the developers say.

The method is painless and the patient only feels the tightening and relaxing of muscles as they are exercised, a spokesman says. The developers say clinical studies indicate many patients with incontinence can regain control of bladder function following an eight-week course of twice-weekly sessions lasting less than 30 minutes.

The spokesman cited recent data from the studies indicating that of 48 women completing eight weeks of the NeoControl therapy, 52 percent reported being "completely dry" and 83 per cent reported "significant improvement" in their condition.
