The most promiscuous demographic in the U.K. is none other than the over-50 crowd. A survey from the Co-operative Pharmacy found that a quarter of folks in this age group have cheated on their partners while one in six people admitted they never use protection with a new sexual partner.
What possible reason could they have for getting down and dirty without contraception? The most common answer was "getting carried away in the moment."
This behavior is nothing new either. Turns out that young people today -- who have grown up in a far more sexually liberal environment than their elders -- are actually more demure than older folks were at the same age. One in five teens say they waited until age 16 to lose their virginity, compared to one in 20 respondents in the older age group.
The poll results challenge the widespread belief that teens today are more promiscuous than ever. One researcher stuck up for the younger generation, explaining, "They unfairly get a bad name, while those in their 50s, who grew up in the 60s and 70s, are living up to the era's carefree image as they take greater risks with their sexual health."
