Time Out with Chad

Charting Your Progress

How do you measure success with your health and fitness programs? Chad says: While each person's goal may differ, there are common elements to keep in mind when you calculate your own health achievements.

Success can be measured in many ways, but these are the most important long-term goals to keep in mind when assessing your health and fitness accomplishments:

  • Adoption of new healthy habits.
  • Improved appearance.
  • Long-term decrease in medical problems.
  • Long-term decrease in injury and other health risks.
  • An improved quality of life, with or without weight loss.
It is equally important to recognize the short- and medium-term changes you make during your fitness program that can contribute significantly to your healthier lifestyle, such as:
  • Decreased reliance on medications.
  • Increased ability to perform physical activity.
  • Reduced intake of fat.
  • Increased intake of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Healthier cooking and food preparation.
  • A habit of reading food labels at the grocery store.
  • Appreciation for new food tastes and textures.
