Time Out with Chad

The Best Time to Exercise

Everyone can agree that exercise is a good way to stay physically fit and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. You'll feel better, have more energy, and your whole outlook on life will be brighter. In short, exercise is a win-win situation that should be a part of your daily routine.

But when exactly is the best time to exercise? Is it first thing in the morning, before you enjoy that first cup of coffee? Or is the best time to exercise right after dinner, so you can work off that extra helping of mashed potatoes?

Evaluate Your Schedule
If you are a person who exercises regularly, you may have already found a routine that's just right for you. However, if you find your exercise time varies from day to day, and it's wearing you down instead of perking you up, then you need to learn how to listen to your internal clock to determine the best time of the day to schedule your exercise routines.

For example, if you routinely wake up early, and you are perfectly comfortable with beginning your exercise routine at that time, then keep at it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But say your work schedule forces you to get up early to fit in a half hour of jogging or other type of exercise. Maybe you're not having fun with that program, and it's making you miserable. That is something that's broken, and you need to learn how to fix it. Next: Know Your Body's Rhythms >
