Time Out with Chad

Warming Up for a Swim

Swimming is one of the best ways to keep physically fit. It improves heart action, aids blood circulation, and helps develop firm muscles.

Swimming has become a major competitive sport, with thousands of swimmers competing each year in meets held by schools, colleges, and swimming clubs. Professional swimmers and their coaches know the importance of preparing for swimming before entering the water.

Because swimming is a sport that puts a lot of stress on your shoulders and upper body muscles, it is imperative that you take the necessary time to exercise before swimming. If you don't, you run the risk of doing serious damage to your rotator cuff.

It is recommended that you spend at least ten or fifteen minutes doing a series of exercises before you jump into the pool. Exercising will warm up your muscles and help you to loosen up. Next: Good Workouts for Swimmers
